Home Care Instructions

Your dental care doesn’t end when you leave our office! Please take your after-care instructions seriously to ensure proper healing.

Anesthetic

If you were given a local anesthetic for numbing, you should avoid drinking or eating hot liquids or foods to prevent scalding yourself. Also, avoid chewing in the area until the numbness wears off to prevent biting your tongue or jaw.

Gum Sensitivity

If your gum tissue is sensitive after a procedure, we recommend taking Advil, Tylenol, or Aleve as needed to alleviate discomfort and swelling. Generics are fine to take.

Rinsing with warm salt water can help to cleanse the area and speed tissue healing. Over-the-counter topical anesthetics such as Orajel can also be used for temporary numbing of gum tissue.

Discomfort

Brush normally and eat normally if comfortable. Some temperature, sweet, and biting sensitivity is normal around temporary fillings, crowns, and new dental work.

Most discomfort diminishes within a few days or weeks. However, if you experience significant pain or swelling, please call our office for further instructions.
